Micromachining

Micro-mechanical fabrication is the production of devices with feature sizes ranging from a few micrometers to a few millimeters with relatively conventional manufacturing processes. It can overcome the limitations of current manufacturing processes in making cost-effective 3D, complex geometries in a variety of engineering materials. It is also seen as more effective for creating the interface between the macro and micro-worlds than other manufacturing techniques. Adopting conventional processes, such as, micro-milling and micro-injection molding will increase productivity and the ability to economically process materials not currently considered, e.g. metallic alloys and composite plastics. An integration of micro-mechanical machining and micro-injection molding can produce 3D features not possible in either process by itself.
